Tagging Basics

Accessing the Schema Editor

Tagging schemas on your URLs is a breeze with Milestone's Schema Manager. There are two ways to enter the 'Tag Schema' section, you can click on 'Continue Tagging' to the top right of the Schema Home page

Alternatively, you can access the 'Tag Schema' section from the left navigation panel under 'Tag Schema'

Choose the web page you wish to add schemas to by clicking on   under the ‘Actions‘ column.

Choosing schema type

The first-time user will see a set of the most prominent schemas under the ‘Choose a Schema type to start with’. The user can choose from the list of schemas displayed or use the search bar to find the most relevant schema to start with.

You could also use the search bar to find a schema that you wish to add.

In addition, once you have chosen a schema type, you can use the drop-down to add more schema types.

As soon as you choose a Schema Type, the editor will display the most relevant schema properties for that particular type.

Tagging web page content

To tag the elements on your website with the property, simply click on the website section you wish to tag and click on the property. For example, if you wish to tag a description on a page, click on the description and it will be highlighted in orange. Then click on the property 'Description' and it will automatically get copied or tagged.

Removing Tagged Data

To remove tagged data, click on the 3 dots by the property and click on 'Removed Tagged Data'.

Adding schema properties

If you wish to add a property to the tag, click on the 'Add Property' icon.

To add Optional Fields, the process is the same as the Recommended field. If you see the ‘+’ sign, then you need to point and click on the content field on your website to add it, and if there is only a drop-down option, you will have to choose the schema tag from the options available.

In case you wish to carry out advanced tagging, like in the example above for repeating schema properties, you will have to click on the ‘+’ sign to add a field to repeat the property.

To remove a field, simple click on the ‘-’ sign.

Save & Generate schema

Once you have tagged or chosen the required property fields from the drop-down, click on ‘Save and Generate’ to generate the schema code and validate it. You could choose to just save the schema type and tags by clicking on ‘Save’ or choose to save and exit the page to the ‘Tag Schema tab by clicking on ‘Save & Exit’.

Only if you have entered the required fields, Schema Manager will validate the schemas you have entered to see if there are errors and warnings.

Click on ‘Back’ to go and resolve the schema errors as you cannot publish the schema types if there are errors.

Note: You can publish the schemas if there are warnings, but we recommend that you fix them before publishing them on your web page. However, if there are errors, you cannot publish the schema.
