Must Read: Schema Manager Overview. Key Features and Benefits

Search has witnessed a paradigm shift - having moved from keyword-based to entity-based. Using entities, search engines can now understand ideas, concepts, and characteristics, and their relationship with each other on the web. Schema markups give search engines context about web page content and improve the chances of the website content showing up on search engine result pages (SERPs), e.g. as featured snippets and rich results. Schemas will help:

  • Increase the visibility of a website - impressions, clicks and the overall organic traffic

  • Increase real estate on Search Engine Result Pages (SERPs) for content categories like FAQ, Q&A, Rich snippets, Recipes, Breadcrumbs, etc

  • Integral for voice search by optimizing for featured snippets

The Challenge of Schema Management

While it is established that schemas are important, applying schemas across a website (considering some websites have thousands of pages) could prove to be a complex affair. Apart from the bulk effort that is required to tag each page with structured data, the biggest challenges for businesses is that schemas have a complex architecture and would require Content writing + IT Development + SEO expertise to deploy schemas. In addition, the process isn’t a one-time effort as any change to the Schema Vocabulary could result in errors or warnings and content changes on the website would need to be addressed with the relevant schema.

Milestone Schema is a schema deployment software with a comprehensive schema health monitoring system to ensure your website stays error-free.

How does Milestone Schema Manager work?

As soon as your business is on-boarded, a crawl is initiated on the website to discover the web page URLs. Once the crawl is complete, the web URLs will be grouped based on URL and page structure similarities. The user can then choose the web pages to add schema tags to. This can be carried out using the point and click functionality and the user has to add schema types and properties while the JSON LD code is being created at the back-end. The schema is then validated and if there are no errors, the user can publish the schema to the page or bulk publish to the grouped pages. Schema Manager then starts the ongoing health check of the schemas implemented and if there are any errors or warnings in the future, the user can revisit the pages and have them fixed using the same process.
